Abstract

The aim of this work is to retrieve the Freudian texts in which the author discusses the technical recommendations in relation to analytical practice, so that it is possible to raise questions, evaluate the crossings and build appropriate knowledge about the clinical practice of psychology trainees within the “Association for the Protection and Assistance of Convicts” [APAC]. To this end, by means of a bibliographical survey, fundamental notions such as “transference”, “abstinence”, “free association” and “analytical payment” were mobilized, as well as making use of the theoretical resources provided by authors and commentators from the psychoanalytic field. The results indicated that the application of Freudian recommendations within APAC faced significant challenges due to the specificities of the institutional environment, but also offered new perspectives for clinical practice. It is concluded that, although the adaptation of psychoanalysis in total institutions presents challenges, it is possible to develop practices that respect the fundamental principles of psychoanalysis, without disregarding the logic of total institutions, promoting the well-being of inmates.
